Disastrous Decisions
The article "Why Do Societies Make Disastrous Decisions" was written by Jared Diamond. This article is about how and why societies are not successful and what they do wrong. Part of this is mostly the choices that they make. He gives three reasons to why this is. First, failure to anticipation the problem contributes to the fall. This means they fail to see problem before they start. An example of this would fail to come up with emergency procedures if something does happen. Second, failure to perceive the problem. This would be that they are unable to see that a problem is happening. Last, failure to solve the problem. This would be that once a problem has started, they do not know how to fix it. His example of the environment is very understandable and I agree very much with it. Our society was unable to see the problem before it happened. This may have been because lack of technology. Also, people did not believe it was happening. Now that it is happening, some people still believe that it is false. Our society takes on a big part in forming our values. If they believe in something you will most likely believe it too. This can be harmful because if they believe is something that is not true, there will be very few people that can solve the problem simply because everybody believes what is not true.

I agree with your point about people taking their societies views. He never acknowledged in his paper the idea of societies not knowing an issue is present. I think it would have been interesting to see what he had to say about that.
