Making a Difference
In the past twelve years of being in school, learning a difficult math formula or memorizing history facts, isn't what I'm going to remember 10 years down the road. What I will remember though, is the act of kindness and the ability to make a difference. During my last couple months of my senior year, I experienced what it felt like to make an impact not only in the school but the entire community. During my senior year, I was a Student Government Association board member. This entitled me to plan events and run SGA classes. Each member had to pick an event during the school year to plan and present to the school. I decided planning a blood drive for the school would be the perfect event, my intentions being that I got to miss a day of school to run it. After many hours of planning, organizing, and a hand full of phone calls the blood drive was set up. The day of the drive finally came and so many students signed up to give blood the drive went a couple hours than expected. I was so surprised that so many people were willing to give blood and help the community. After the drive, I was notified that with all the blood given, hundreds of patients in need were treated. When I read how successful the drive was I realized that any one person can make a big difference. I believe that this concept has much more importance than a simple math problem or history fact. If people in society believe that they can make a difference in the world then anything can be accomplished. Today, people don't step enough in what they believe in and just rely on others to do the job. This blood drive proved that if people fight for a cause and work for it, it can be done.

What a great opportunity you had to see you the hard work that you put into planning and organizing this event have such an impact on so many people. This sounds like an invaluable learning experience that extends far beyond the academic setting. Make sure to describe your interactions with people in your academic community in this experience. Also, I would further contrast your attitudes about learning prior to this experience and after, and how you plan to use these lessons in other facets of life.
