Thinking back on my academic achievements, there was never that one defining moment which can be chosen as the experience that changed my perspective of learning. Throughout my years of grade school, my actions basically consisting of just going through the motions to make it through the day. I really had no idea what I was supposed to do with my life and how to go about it until my junior year when I was accepted into the leadership student government association program for my high school. I give complete credit to my leadership class and my leadership mentors for getting me where I am today. It isn’t the fact that I would be completely hopeless without taking my leadership class, it just helped me focus on gaining specific skills that I know that I will use for the rest of my life. Leadership helped me focus on certain goals that I started setting for my self and it was a huge help with getting all of my priorities set. I acquired so many skills dealing with teamwork and responsibility to make myself a better leader. Before leadership, it isn’t that I wasn’t a people person, I was just not very social active. Leadership taught me how to be more of an individual even while in a community of other student leaders. I am now more of an outspoken, focused person that attained many qualities which have influenced me to be apart of the academic community that I am now a part of.
It sounds like you got a lot out of your leadership class. I can definitely respect the feeling of not having one defining educational epiphany moment, as it was hard for me to think of one too. i think you chose an interesting topic idea.
ReplyDeleteI can completely relate to this. I was Drum Major at my high school and the skills I learned from being in a leadership position definitely helped me get through high school and also become a better person in general. I also agree that once you are put in a leadership position, you kind of have to become more outgoing and assertive person, and that isn't a bad thing at all!
ReplyDeleteHi Victoria, through your Leadership class you gained specific skills and certain goals, which is a solid basis for this paper. In your paper, go into more detail about these skills and goals and how you believe they will help you throughout college and life. Also, give examples of when you've been more outspoken and the influences this community hand on you.
