Private School is worth the $
For my project topic I plan on comparing and contrasting the educational values associated with both public and private schooling. I can speak about this topic from experience because I have been exposed to both types. I attended public school from Pre-K through eighth grade and enrolled in a private College Prep High School. When I went to a public middle school, I was not too fond of the teachers or curriculum. I felt as if the teachers were only teaching to the next test and trying their hardest to meet the standards of the state. They weren't at all concerned as to how the students were absorbing the material. Every afternoon I found myself in my math teacher's office in seventh grade, seeking help on what was just taught in class. It was easy to regurgitate the material for the upcoming exam because that was the goal of the teacher and all that was necessary in his or her eyes. If the same problems were given to me a month later, I would proceed to act as if I had never seen them before. Once I started my high school education I could tell that there was a significant difference in the atmosphere and teachers' efforts as soon as I began my freshman year. It was obvious that the teachers wanted to be there and there was no quota as to how many chapters of the book to cover, or Standardized Test scores to meet. Our in-class conversations lasted forty-five minutes and that's where I learned the most throughout my schooling career. I received tips on how to study, facts that I could easily remember for years to come, and information that helped me both inside and outside of school. I see myself as fortunate because I was actually able to enjoy my classes thanks to my influential teachers.

I think that's a great description of the private school atmosphere. I experienced almost the exact same thing at Gonzaga where it was more than just a teacher standing in front of the room talking, and instead was an actual conversation with the class with intellectual topics and ideas flowing that were more valuable then just teaching for a test. I think this is a great idea good work bud.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Boden. I also went to private school and got a great education that was well worth the money. Also a lot of money comes back to you in scholarship money making it a good investment. Your my boy Blue!!!
ReplyDeleteDonnie, as a student who has attended both, you are able to give perspective to both public and private school environments. Continue to analyze WHAT separated these experiences for you with examples. Could a public school be just as effective if the teachers were to employ some of the same methods? (JMU is public). Perhaps, focus on a specific memory that illustrates the differences and branch out from there.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statements. I also attended both policy and private school and I saw a HUGE difference in my education and what I took from both schools. I'm excited to read this essay because it will be interesting to read someone else's perspective with regard to public towards private.
ReplyDeleteI also have attended both public and private school Donnie. Not only did I find the classroom setting to be much more interactive at my private high school, but I also noticed a huge change in the entire atmosphere of the school. The distaste I had with my public middle school was the main reason I attended private high school and I wouldn't change my decision for anything.
