In the article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” the author, Nicholas Carr, explains that the Internet is making it more difficult to use our brains in scholastic activities. He believes that after using the web, paying attention while reading books had become more difficult. His thoughts start to wonder and he begins thinking about doing other things. He quotes other credible authors who believe the same thing. Carr thinks that the Internet is responsible for making people lose interest in knowledgeable experiences. In the article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” James Bowman, the author, also shares the same belief that the web is making it more difficult to focus when actually reading something that is not inside a computer screen. Bowman believes that the young generations today will be the first ones to not outsmart the generations before them. He thinks that our use of the Internet will cause us to rely on it more instead of figuring things out for ourselves. However, Carr thinks that the Internet will only help us to become super smart, maybe smarter than we need to be. I believe that both of these authors have good arguments and I can see both sides. I agree with both of them in the fact that the web may be causing us to become concentrated when reading things that do not come from the computer. This is something that happens to me frequently. The two authors make some very interesting points.
This blog is a forum for our class to discuss ideas for writing, comment on readings, and generally communicate outside of the classroom about various topics in reading and writing.
