To begin, both of the articles made very valid points! In “Is Stupid Making Us Google?” by James Bowman I love how he described writing research article at the bottom of the second page. I was thinking about the same thing today! When we write a paper we just rewrite what we read online. There isn’t much work that goes into it other than that. We don’t get to learn much about the background of the topic. Going back to the title of the paper, students are busy and lazy so they turn to Google for quick information.
In both articles I can relate to how the internet is a different form of reading that effects how we approach longer readings. I think this is the reason many students think they are poor readers! Since it is harder to keep their attention on the writing and with the additional background information it isn’t what they are used to reading. I know I feel this way. I always have trouble focusing on longer papers. It seems sometimes that the same information is being repeated over and over in different wording.
The second reading was “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” by Nicholas Carr. On the third page I disagree with the quote made by Maryanne Wolf. She claims reading isn’t an instinctive skill for human so we have to teach our minds how to translate it. She claims that speech is engraved into our minds. I think both of them are traits humans are born with. People who lived during the Stone Age communicated through a form of writing and speech. It has progressed significantly since then so it takes longer to process but both are instinctive forms.
