Tannen’s article “Talking Up Close” is primarily classified into two different meanings. The first meaning is when she gives examples that demonstrate how males are more likely to establish a strong position and connection to others through fighting with women but also while using verbal techniques. She shows that this behavior is more for the fun aspect of the men and she does so by using real life examples of different cultures to represent that there is a variety of ways that people can fight by having arguments to show that they are friendly with each other while also creating a strong bond and connection with the other person at the moment. In the second meaning, Tannen points out that not any particular style that anyone uses is superior. The motive of the conversation can’t just be answered or figured out. How people say things might differ from what they intended to really mean. For example, when texting someone you may want them to think one thing when sending the text but on the other end they might interpret it differently than you would have wanted them to.
Giroux’s article “Children’s Culture and Disney’s Animated Films” is primarily aimed towards rebutting the targeted through that Disney’s animated movies are motivating entertainment for children. He argues that not only do these films inform and entertain the children but they also replace the rest of the household along with parents, siblings, and their educational life with competing towards their values. He says that Disney primarily provides “prototypes” for everyone around the community along with the families. However, they provide these prototypes while also leading the children into a conservative view of the world. Disney is promoting “harmlessness” but their investment with projects around Disney world and the fantasy that it creates is causing criticism to arise. He goes on that say that feminism is described through male figures but no matter how much they try to make the women be perceived as independent they really are not through the men’s eyes.
I agree with your statement about the disney article, I don't think Disney is trying distort kids ideas on feminism and such.
