Comparing Google and how it relates to Stupid

I found the two articles "Google is making us stupid", and "Is stupid making us Google" very interesting. The main point from the two of these articles is whether or not the internet, in particular Google, is making a generation stupid. I find Google a very useful tool that simplifies the internet experience. In the article by Nicholas Carr he starts off by saying that people are losing ability to read long articles. He makes the point that the internet can distract very easily, and that a game website is just a click away. This makes people just skim over what they read on the internet and not really analyses it fully. I agree with this because I find myself at times just give up on long articles and hope that i just get the main point. Carr also talks about how computers are becoming everything like a clock, map, printer, etc. Computers make life easier, but they can be very distracting at times. In the article by James Bowman he strongly believes that the digital age stupefies young Americans. He puts some of the blame on the mentors saying they should have taught students better. Bowman uses the example that most people do projects as fifth grader would. They just go on Google type in a few key words, copy and paste the information into a document, and add there own transitions. I agree with this as well, because Google makes finding information to easy. Most people get sloppy and lazy and just end up copying from websites in the hope no one will find out. In think there are both pros and cons to this new era, but if used correctly almost anything can be done through the help of Google.

  1. I totally agree that the games and Facebook always distract me since they are right there waiting to be clicked! But I also agree that Google is so easy, so why wouldn't we use it?
