Is Google Making Us Stupid and Is stupid Making Us Google

In "Is Google Making Us Stupid" by Nicholas Carr, he illustrates that because we have become so dependent on technology and its usefulness to research material, we have become lazy in the general sense of intelligence. We rely on the easiness and quickness of the web to give us information without having to look it up within the actual text. Carr states that it has become harder for individuals to read the full text and analyze it intelligently, without skimming it to get the gist of the information needed for the purpose of knowledge. Which goes to say that the web has become a distraction for reading in the "traditional sense." Wolfe said "we are how we read" which explains how effective we are in communicating that information that we understood from the reading. As technology advances, we are predicted to become more computer like with our minds in the way we retain material without fully analyzing it intellectually.
In "Is Stupid Making Us Google" by James Bowman, he explains the way in which we have been "culturally reduced" by the ways of the Internet. In the newer generations, not many people read books anymore because we can gather information easily from the Internet and click on hyperlinks to get more sources on that particular material, therefore we don't need to spend hours in the library to get information. As time goes on, he concludes that each generation with be presumably in the same level of stupidity, and that it will not matter how culture and tradition will not be effectively used in the future.

  1. I agree with how you said that Google makes everything very easy. This can both work to a persons advantage or disadvantage at times. If used correctly though Google is a powerful tool
