Reading Summaries

In the article "Children's Culture and Disney's Animated Films" I disagreed with Henry Giroux when he was saying that Disney had alternative motives other than pure entertainment for childeren. Since I grew up watching Disney movies and the Disney channel, I can personally say that it hasn't persuaded my view on society. I think it is crazy when he said that some Disney movies have examples of racism and suppressing women in them. Disney has been producing movies for years and i think through their movies they can actually be giving childeren good morals. I believe the adults are trying to read into the movies too much and interpret every little thing.
The article "Talking Up Close: Status and Connection" by Deborah Tannen opened on how women communicate with others to create strong connections and relationships with others and how men communicate with a goal. I agree with this because I see it a lot. For example, my mother can talk to anyone that she has any sort of relationship for hours, and she does it because she cares. This author also mentions that in male sports, the relationship is more competitive than trying to establish a connection.

  1. I agree with you that it seems like Giroux is just looking too far into Disney movies and just trying to find something to pick on. It's really not that serious.
