Stupid Google and Google Stupid

The articles, "Is Google Making Us Stupid," by Nicholas Carr, and "Is Stupid Making Us Google," by James Bowman, there are several valid points. They share the same viewpoint in that the internet is getting faster by the second. The current generation is extremely spoiled in that they have the entire world's knowledge at their fingertips. The technology of smart phones, and computers allows its' customers to have access to information in a matter of seconds. The idea of reading for leisure or as a hobby has gone down the drain. There is no more interest in reading any type of material that is several pages long. People nowadays have have horrible attention spans and their minds begin to wander after a page or two. The question is, could the internet be at fault?

In the article, "Is Google Making Us Stupid," Carr makes the argument that people are becoming machines now. He stresses the idea that the internet is making us quicker and smarter because the information is unlimited. He believes that the use of the internet is only helping, and making people even smarter. The article, "Is Stupid Making Us Google," the exact opposite viewpoint is being conveyed. Bowman believes that this generation is going to be the first one to fall short of "outsmarting" the previous one, and it's only going to get worse down the road. The internet is hurting people in a way because there is no learning taking place. There is no more research or looking up definitions when the answer is given to someone in a matter of seconds.

I never really thought about how easy we have it as a society today. It seems like smart phones are a necessity. They can tell you what the weather is like, where to get lunch, and how many miles away the closest bank is. All of this can be accomplished with the push of a button. Technology is a good thing, but if one relies on the internet to accomplish simple tasks, there might be a problem in just how much they're relying on it.
