I didn't really like the second article as much because I felt it put sort of a negative light on disney, and women in general. It seems to try to persuade us that disney is trying to make women think they need to rely on a man, and I don't think that is disney's goal at all. I think that disney just wants to entertain, not corrupt the children.

Summaries
I think that both articles play with gender roles, and a how men seem to dominate women. The first article was mainly about the differences in how people communicate. It shows that not every fight is offensive, but can be used to be playful, and friendly, and to show a bond between two people. They also discuss that some people are in relationships where one person is more dominant over the other, and Tannen uses examples to show this. I found this article particularly interesting because I liked reading about all the different ways people communicate, with all of the social aspects.

I agree with you about the Disney article. I do not think that Disney's intent is to put poor values and judgements into the minds of you kids. Also, if most adults probably have not picked up these poor values in the movies, then I doubt that the kids who are watching them will.
ReplyDeleteI also agree about the disney article's put kind of a negative light on disney and bringing women into the picture. I agree with the part as well when you said that disney only wants to entertain, not corrupt the children.
